01

Before you leave: close the information gaps

A listing starts the conversation; it does not replace an agreement. Repeat the quantity and total price in the request, ask whether the item is still available, then settle on a realistic day and time window. If something matters for allergies, dietary needs or storage, ask before travelling.

Do not move to an unfamiliar payment link or send a deposit just because someone creates urgency. Local Finds does not hold payments. Pay only by the method you and the seller agreed, after you are satisfied with the item.

02

Choose a handover that respects privacy

  • Use a public, familiar meeting place when practical.
  • Tell someone where you are going if the location is unfamiliar.
  • Keep exact addresses out of public comments and screenshots.
  • Do not enter private buildings or isolated areas if you are uncomfortable.
  • If plans or the location change unexpectedly, pause and reassess.

03

Protect the food on the journey

Bring clean bags or boxes and use an insulated bag for items that need temperature control. Avoid combining raw animal products with ready-to-eat food. Do not leave food in a parked car while running other errands.

At handover, compare the item with the listing. Look for damage, spoilage, broken seals where relevant, cracked eggs or anything that contradicts the description. Ask for storage instructions and any required label or producer information.

04

Ask what a claim actually means

Words such as local, homemade, free-range, natural and organic are not interchangeable. Local concerns origin. Homemade concerns where or by whom something was prepared. Organic and some animal-production descriptions can be subject to formal standards.

Ask a neutral, specific question: “Where was this grown?”, “When was it made?”, or “What do you mean by pesticide-free?” A reliable seller should answer plainly and should not make medical or nutritional promises about the product.

05

If something is wrong

  1. 1

Do not complete the handover if the item is materially different, appears unsafe or the situation feels wrong.

  2. 2

Keep the conversation and listing details rather than arguing in person.

  3. 3

Report misleading, prohibited, unsafe or spam listings through Local Finds.

  4. 4

For suspected food-safety or legal breaches, contact the relevant Cyprus authority; a marketplace report is not an official complaint.

Questions

Common questions

Does Local Finds take payment?

No. Buyers and sellers agree on payment directly. Local Finds does not hold funds or provide payment protection.

Can other people see my pickup address?

Public listings show only an approximate area. Exact handover details should be shared privately after a seller accepts a request.

What should I do if a listing looks unsafe or misleading?

Do not proceed. Use the report action on the listing and contact the relevant public authority if the issue may involve food safety or illegal activity.
